Course Study Description
CCEUS25 - Family Stress And Crisis Intervention: An Introduction For School Counselors [10 contact hours] - [$50.00 - NO OTHER COURSE FEES APPLY] This course is designed to help school counselors working with families who have long histories of chronic and severe problems. It focuses on how to help the next generation avoid the terrors of abandonment, violence, or abuse experienced by their parents. It is about opening up hope and healing for families who have often moved from counselor to counselor, program to program, and agency to agency. Strategies for engaging these families are presented in this course that will help school counselors become resources for change, able to care without claiming ownership of problems, and able to confront abusive and neglectful behavior when necessary. Attention is paid to how to work with families of children in placement and the experience of foster and group care for children. There is also included data on "staying alive when the going gets tough." The information could be a valuable resource for frontline practitioners in their work in the schools and a systematic, pragmatic, and sensitive approach to working with crisis-driven, fragile families. The course will present a combination of practical advice and realistic thinking about treating the troubled and troubling families who live with--and cause--so much heartbreak. The course will provide the introductory information that is necessary for delivering good counseling services while maintaining your own well-being.
