To facilitate the role of the counselor in the schools, comprehensive school counseling programs have been established from K-12.  The role of the school counselor has been institutionalized in this process; however, it has also been one that is evolving and changing.  When the Internet appeared on the scene, counselors saw opportunities and room for come concerns about their future progress.  Professional counselors are on the threshold of an information revolution that can only mean positive progress for the future in schools and the profession.  The Internet can assist counselors in defining and advertising the role to all segments of the school constituency.  It presents the opportunity to engage students who are rapidly adopting the Internet as the primary means of information gathering.  There is ample opportunity for creativity in how the Internet is employed in the counseling role.  It also poses some concerns for counselors today in the tradition high tech / high touch dilemma that counselor have faced.  Counselors, above everyone in the schools, needs to make a commitment to all that technology holds for students.  To not pursue this new technology is like the ostrich hiding his head in the sand.  Not knowing about the potential of the World Wide Web will leave counselors out of our rapidly developing technological culture and therefore less effective in helping students.  The focus of this course is a step-by-step exposition of all that the Internet could hold for counselors now and in the future.  Exploring the World Wide Web can be an adventure and a learning experience that may change everything you do as a counselor.
