Character Development In The Schools
Character Development In The Schools
Course Study Description
CCEUS32 - Character Development In The Schools[10 contact hours] - [$50.00 - NO OTHER COURSE FEES APPLY] The word character comes from the Greek word chassein which means to engrave such as on a wax tablet, a gemstone, or a metal surface. From there it developed into a distinctive sign or mark and then into an individual's pattern of behavior. Good character is knowing the good, loving the good, and doing the good. This involves the head, heart, and hand in a integrated way. It is the sum of our intellectual and moral habits, a mixture of virtues and vices. There is much for students to learn in school , but nothing is more important for our personal happiness and the health of society than the dispositions and habits that make up good character. Students are academically, socially, and morally "wprks in progress" and need to be the crafters of their own characters. The essence of character education is "What you are to be you are now becoming." This course helps counselors take their students seriously as persons and help them become informed and responsible moral agents in society.
